European rural building, by Simon Roetter (1850-1906), son of Paulus Roetter.  He signed and dated it December 15th, but without a year.  It was most likely done in 1858, 1859, or 1860.  He was young at the time and trying to copy from a now unknown work of his father.  He later worked as an apprentice under Paulus Roetter at Cambridge University, but didn't do well at it and bounced around between other jobs back in St. Louis, such as porter and bookkeeper.
