Map of Los Angeles, California, in 1909.  This map is attributed to its editor Worthington Gates (1862-1933), but the actual on-the-ground artistry was apparently by a Francis Lawrence, about whom very little is known except that he may have come from Denmark originally.  I can find no other matching records before or afterwards on anyone with that name (or likely variants like Larsen or Lorensen).
