This sketch by Dorothy Hall Simpson was most likely of her oldest child, Richard Alastair Simpson, born in Bakersfield on 8 June 1940 (meaning that the sketch was probably done around October 1940).  It could have been a different child (or even copied from a magazine picture), but the drawing looks just like her son's baby photo in regards to the head shape, nose, and other features.
