During the various festivities surrounding his 70th birthday in 1898, Dr. Friedrich Karl Castelhun (son-in-law of Paulus Roetter) commissioned two identical portraits by Henry Raschen (1856-1937), the famous painter of Western Americana.  Painting #1 was created first and painting #2 was the second copy, though both of them were done by Henry Raschen himself.  Within the family, these two painting have been affectionately referred to as the Großvater Paintings.

Painting #1 went to Karl Castelhun's son Paul R. Castelhun, then later to his daughter Frances C. Trimble, then to her son Thomas E. Trimble.  So far, the digital file of this painting is just an iPhone picture (with lots of reflections, unfortunately), but that will be rectified at a later date.

Painting #2 went to Karl Castelhun's daughter Ella Castelhun, then to her grandnephew Paul C. Trimble then to me, his nephew, Scott Trimble.  Thus, there is a digital file already that was created from an extremely high-resolution photographic scan (the images on this website are thumbnails).
